Purpose?

The overview map provides the route on one map sheet. The overview is intended to give the user an indication of the entire route.
This map is ideal to offer during events. In some cases the overview is also useful to complete the route. For example if it is a short route of 5 to 10 km or if it is printed on A1 or A0 size as a Poster print.

Where can I download the overview map?

1. Go to the detail page of the desired route.
2. In the bottom left column, click and then Overview.
3. Click Download.

For whom?

The overview map is accessible to every RouteYou user. However, the additional printing options are co-determined by your account level: 

• With a free account you can adjust following items:
  1. the orientation of your map image : portrait or landscape
  2. the output format: a pdf or an image (png-format).
• From a Plus account, you have more choices:
  1. If available, you can print the route on a topographic background. Please note (!) that a printout on topographic map is only intended for individual, personal use. For large print runs as part of an event, for example, royalties must be paid.
  2. Choose whether or not to show the locations of the linked sights. 
• From a Premium account you can choose to:
  1. Print your route on a paper size other than a standard A4.
  2. Change the style of your map to Contrast, Accent, Bright, Gray or Retro. 
  3. Adjust the layout of your map:
     1. Print the map with or without a title
     2. You can choose whether or not to print the elevation profile. If you omit the elevation profile, there is more room for the map itself.
     3. The map will also show mile markers if you wish. The number and equivalence is determined by the length of the route.
        
     4. For node-to-node routes, choose whether or not to show the nodes on the map. 
     5. Street names on the map: If desired, a limited number of street names are also shown on the map. These can be useful in determining your location.

Layout

An overview map always contains the following basic elements:

• Title and author
• Country of origin
• Route type and score
• Practical route information: length, meters of ascent, an indication of the level of difficulty, starting and finishing points
• QR code (with a link to the online version of the route, usable on smartphones)
• Height profile
• Small location map
• Map with route 
• If the route is constructed using the node-to-node network then the nodes are also shown on the printout.
