The goal and the related questions
We frequently get the question how we are setting up your own route channel within RouteYou and your site. This can can include one or all of the following services you want to offer to your customers/vistors:
- Your own set of recreational routes
- Your own set of Points of interest
- Your own recreational RoutePlanner with a general or specific network (such as a node network)
To explain the steps, costs and effort we present the following apprach below.
The general procedure and approach
Step 1: The data gathering phase
Depending on what you want to offer, we need to go through one or all of the following data gathering phases
1.0 Setting up your account
We set up a professional PRO or ENTEPRISE account on RouteYou, to be able
- to store and offer all your routes and POIs
- to edit and maintain your routes
- to follow up on statistics
- to offer a RoutePlanner
- to access all type of other technical services
The cost and effort is included in the set-up of the PRO or ENTEPRISE account.
1.1. Uploading Routes
You deliver the routes, preferably in GPX format. That format includes title and description of the route. We will upload them to the system and they will look like this example.
Ready to use
- as a print
- as a download in all type of formats so you or your customers can make use of them on all of the most important recreational navigation platforms, GPSs or apps in the market
- for navigation on the RouteYou mobile website app or your MySite/MyApp (see further of read more about it on this link)
If you don't have the routes in GPX format but in another format (e.g. shape), it might take 10-30% more effort to import them. Let us know how you can deliver it and we will find a way to get them uploaded. That's our core experience.
Estimated effort: +/- 0.5-1 day
Remark: we can also digitize routes from analogue maps (or PDFs), but that's manual work and to be able to give you an estimate of the cost, we need to receive a few examples.
1.2. Uploading POINTS if interest
You deliver the points of interest in one of the following structured formats (excell, shape, XML (GPX),...). For a more detailed description of the content you can deliver about your POIs and how, read the following page.
We will upload them to the system and they will look like this example.
Ready to use:
- they can be added to your routes (see this example)
- they can be added to your planner (see further)
- they can be structured in themes, charactersitics or groups
- they can be searched such as in this example
If you don't have the POIs with a X,Y-coordinate but an address we can also geocode them. That might take an extra 30-50% more effort to import them.
Estimated effort: +/- 0.5-1 day
1.3. Integrating your (node) network
This is only relevant if you have your own (node) network and you want to make it available in a RoutePlanner.
- You deliver the (node) network as a shape file. For a more detailed info about the node network, read the following page.
- We assume that you will deliver a topological correct format and yiur data is of suitable quality. If that's not the case, we can make it so, but that effort is not included in the estimate here.
- We will integrate it with the other available networks in Europe we have so it is seamless and users and you will be able to plan and connect to neighbouring networks.
Estimated effort: +/- 3-5 days
Even if you want to make a network from scratch, we can do that for you, but that's a seperate effort estimate. Read more about it here.
Step 2: Making routes, POIs and planners available for use and intergration
There are a few options here. The basic option, (=making routes and POIs available) is already covered in step 1. Here are two other options
2.1. Providing a RoutePlanner
There are many options to provide a RoutePlanner (area, type of maps, routes, POIs you want to show and add to the planned routes,...). You can select form the several options. For more detail, read this page.
The cost and effort is included in the set-up of the PRO or ENTEPRISE account.
This routeplanner can be integrated in
- Your PRO account on RouteYou
- You website via een ENTEPRISE account
- Your MySite/MyApp (see further)
2.2. Providing a MySite/MyApp
Read here what a MySite/MyApp is and why you might want to have it. But that's an option.
The usage cost and effort is included in the an ENTEPRISE account. There is a one-off set-up cost descibed here.
Step 3: Supporting integration in your website, app
This is only relevant if you want to integrate your routes, POIs and routeplanner in your site.
In this step we support your web builder to integrate the info via plugins and web services in your site.
The basic support is included in the ENTEPRISE account set-up cost. Read more about it here.
We recommend you to budget some extra consultancy hours (+/- 10 hour) to analyse the architecture of your site and app with one of our top architecs so you don't loose time making wroing decisions or developing something we already have.
Step 4: Maintenance and updates of your data
That's optional, but take into account effort for the update process of your routes, POIs, and/or networks.
The effort for the update is +/- the effort described for import in Step 1. Mutiply it with the frequency you want to do it to get an esimate.
Lead time
In general we get from step 1 to 3 in 2-3 months (depending on the quality of the data).
