Senior Front-end Engineer Wanted!

Hey there!
Are you a front-end wizard with a passion for coding and all things active, outdoor, and relaxing? At RouteYou, we’re making the world a little more active and healthier by helping people discover and navigate the most beautiful routes. Now that we’re part of Mediahuis, we’re accelerating our journey—and we need you to join us!
What will you do?
At RouteYou, we’re building even better tools for hikers, cyclists, motorcyclists, and more. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Lead and develop the next evolution of our native apps, based on React-Native—from route planning to navigation.
- Work on innovative UX features that allow our millions of users to provide feedback on navigation and routing.
- Contribute to creating a fresh new design that works seamlessly on desktop, tablet, and smartphone.
- Build interactive features connecting our platform with other social networks.
- Experiment with AI and the latest gadgets for recreational navigation.
Who are we looking for?
An experienced front-end developer who’s ready to raise the bar alongside our team. You’ll play a key role in the development of our front-end codebase, collaborating with colleagues to create innovative and efficient solutions. Are you someone who takes responsibility, shows initiative, and thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment?
You:
- Have strong expertise in JavaScript, React, React-Native, and Next.js.
- Know PHP? That’s a great bonus!
- Are a UX enthusiast who wants to take user experiences to the next level.
- Think in solutions and enjoy both collaborating and working independently.
- Have a background in Engineering or Computer Science (or are a highly skilled autodidact).
- Feel at home in a flat structure and enjoy taking ownership of your work.
- Love everything related to the outdoors, navigation, and technology.

Senior Software engineer
The big challenges you will work on
As a senior software engineer, you will work on the following major challenges:
- Further develop the RouteYou app into a fully navigable platform that shows you the way perfectly as a hiker, cyclist, motorcyclist, ... We do this using the latest PWA technologies.
- Help develop a mobile interactive environment where the user gets a better UX and can give feedback on routing and navigation behaviour to make the recreational navigation offering even better.
- Help bring RouteYou's huge set of features that have grown organically over the last 15 years to desktop, tablet and smartphone in a new sleek design.
- Provide an interactive environment between our network of millions of users and that of other social networks in terms of recreational navigation, sports and tourism applications and experiences.
- Research the latest user devices that are emerging today and develop applications for recreational navigation.
- Together with your colleagues, research and introduce new techniques for more effective software development within RouteYou.
Your background and attitude
- You have a master's degree in Engineering or Computer Science (or similar through experience) with excellent ICT knowledge.
- You have a strong knowledge in programming in JavaScript. Experience in PHP is a strong plus.
- You have a strong knowledge of JavaScript frameworks such as React, Vue, Angular. Experience introducing these frameworks into an existing codebase is a plus.
- You like to think about the bigger picture within RouteYou and how we can make our great tools even better.
- You are creative in devising and developing (carto-)graphic applications and using geographical Big Data.
- You are fascinated by UX and applications for outdoor navigation.
- You enjoy finding things out independently and learn quickly. You also enjoy working in a group.
- You are interested in learning more about PWA technology, responsive design on new devices, geomatics, Big Data, AI and the latest ICT technologies.
- The working language in the company is Dutch but we expect a good basic knowledge of English. If you are only English-speaking, that's no problem either.
- Young or old, it doesn't matter to us. Your attitude, commitment to learning, creativity, talent and focus on results matter all the more. You are a doer who knows how to get things done.
- You feel good in a flat structure where you can take the initiative and contribute and think directly to future applications.
- You are willing to work in Gentbrugge, in combination with working from home.
- You are extremely interested in the subject RouteYou is working on.
