Specific meaning of a route

The concept of a route is frequently used in comparison with the concept of a track.

A route fits on a network and "knows" when you reach a crossroad or a division. GPS devices supporting 'routes' provide turn by turn instruction (=turn left, turn right,…). It frequently also provides a reference to other objects in the network (e.g. turn from street X into street Y, passing object A).
